There are two things we would do anything for, no matter how much it would cost us: our kids and our pets.
Having a pet is something that can bring so much joy and love and also the best side of us, exactly like any other person we love in our lives, and just as our kids, our pets are our babies and they need our attention and our care as well. So, why not getting them a pet insurance?
Here are some things you must know before doing it:
IT GIVES YOU PEACE OF MIND
Pet insurance is just the same as life, car or home insurance: we pay it wishing we’ll never need to use it. Also, if your pet doesn’t have a specific condition, you won’t need it most of the time, but it’ll surely give you peace of mind. At the other hand, if you ever find your pet with some kind of illness or an accident, it’ll help you with the high expenses a vet could cost you.
IF YOU HAVE A PUPPY, GO FOR IT RIGHT NOW!
When you have a puppy all insurances can cost lower since it’ll follow your steps from the beginning. The older your pet is, the higher it’ll cost, if it even qualifies for coverage – 7 to 10 years pets hardly do. Besides that, insurance might not cover some illnesses since they might see it as a preexisting condition. So, the sooner you can close a deal, do it.
LEARN WHAT’S COVERED
Before closing the deal, you must learn exactly what is covered or not on each plan. For instance: foods and nutritional supplements are never covered by insurance, just like most of policies won’t cover a development disorder if your vet believes your pet has this condition since birth. Also, although you can find some exceptions, most policies cover illness and injuries, but not preventative care. Just take a good look before making it all about price quotation.
An average good-to-go pet insurance plan would cost you $30-$40 a month. Take some time to learn what each policy might get you. For example, you can get an accident-only insurance and it might cost you $10, or a more complete plan where you can get until 90% of your pet vet’s bill. You can also get a better policy including preventive care with $15.000,00 payout limit and cost you somewhere between $100 per month. It all depends on what you think your pet would need and that would save you money afterwards.
IT CAN GIVE YOU DISCOUNTS
Insurance might not cover it all, but it can get you some cost cuts with a membership plan. Banfield Hospitals, associated with PetSmart, covers routine care for $20 per month as the cheapest offer, and discounts up to 20% off on other services. There are other memberships that might give you some great deals, and it can get better depending on how much you pay for month. You should definitely take a look at it.
We’re sure these are the things you must know to choose a good insurance for your buddy. After all, don’t ever see pet insurance as a cost, but as an investment: of your money, of your time, of your love for you pal.
